State Representative Tim Butler (R-Springfield) issued the following statement in response to Governor Pritzker signing Illinois Democrats’ record high spending budget that was jammed through the General Assembly:
“The Governor and super-majority Democrats are touting their election-year budget as a triumph of good management when in reality it’s entirely temporary – the direct result of a massive federal bailout and an inflation-induced sugar high. Nothing about this budget does what is actually needed to address the long-term structural problems facing the state.
“Instead of using those federal dollars to address the remaining debt in our Unemployment Insurance Trust Fund, Democrats are using them for more pork projects, knowing full well it means hundreds of millions of dollars in interest will fall on the backs of taxpayers, job creators and lead to cuts in future unemployment benefits. This budget is the standard playbook that needs to end.”
