Rep. Butler Tapped as Spokesperson for Influential Transportation Committee

SPRINGFIELD – State Representative Tim Butler (R-Springfield) has been tapped by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) to serve as the Republican Spokesperson on the Transportation: Vehicles & Safety Committee for the 102nd General Assembly.

“I want to thank Leader Durkin for this opportunity,” said Butler. “Over the past few years, I have been able to successfully work with many Legislators and two Governors on a variety of transportation issues, including the much-needed strengthening of Scott’s Law and a long-overdue capital plan for our state’s transportation system. Serving as the Spokesperson for the Republican Caucus on this committee will allow me to continue this important work. I’m looking forward to working with Chairman D’Amico and the entire committee to pass good legislation.”

As Butler noted, he played a pivotal role in the passage of the legislative package in 2019 that strengthened Scott’s Law, Illinois’ move over law. Among other things, that legislative package made it easier to enforce Scott’s Law and improve awareness. Butler also played an important role in the major infrastructure improvement package that went into effect in 2019.

As Republican Spokesperson on the Transportation: Vehicles & Safety Committee, Butler is responsible for leading witness questioning during testimony, advocating for Republican Caucus positions and negotiating with the Democratic Chairperson to reach bipartisan consensus as often as possible.

Butler was also recently named the Assistant Minority Leader for the Republican Caucus for the 102nd General Assembly.
