Scott’s Law – Slowdown & Move Over

In Illinois, Scott’s Law mandates drivers to move over a lane, if at all possible, when approaching not just emergency vehicles, but all vehicles on the side of the road with hazard lights enabled. State Representative Tim Butler has been closely working with the Illinois State Police (ISP), and new Director Brendan Kelly, to strengthen the awareness and enforcement of Scott’s law through House Bill 2417.

Buler has said Scott’s Law is something for which we need make people much more aware, and that he is committed to working with anyone who wants to educate drivers on the importance of moving over for emergency and disabled vehicles on the side of the road.

House Bill 2417 is going through a final amendment and review process and then Butler hopes to advance the legislation to the Senate in the coming weeks.
