SOS Reinstates Vehicle Registration Reminder Notices
Secretary of State Jesse White announced today that his office has reinstated the mailing of vehicle registration reminder notices to Illinois drivers. To offset the cost of the mailings, White is drafting legislation allowing his office to offer advertising space on the mailings. In addition, White is urging the public to sign-up for email notices to further reduce mailing costs.

The Secretary of State’s office discontinued mailing reminders in October 2015 due to the lack of funding as a direct result of the state budget impasse. The stop-gap budget recently passed by the legislature and signed into law by the Governor allows White’s office to reinstate the notices.

Butler, Jimenez Appointed to Cost-Saving State Government Suggestion Award Board
Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez and myself will help advance state cost saving suggestions from Illinois state employees as part of the newly-reactivated State Government Suggestion Award Board. The Board (SGSAB) reviews and forwards to state agencies specific suggestions that will help state government reduce costs and improve efficiency. Employees who submit successful cost saving suggestions are eligible for cash awards.

The SGSAB was created in 2013, but has fallen inactive. This month the Board was reactivated by the Rauner Administration to allow state employees to participate personally in helping cut costs and make state government more efficient and effective. Awards for successful suggestions are based on the cost savings generated, but may be as much as $5,000.

Engaging our state employees to find innovative solutions to save tax dollars is vital during this time of budget constraints and will give an avenue for us to find these savings.  I’m honored to be appointed and I look forward to serving on this board.

The first waterfowl season will allow the taking of Canada geese and will open on September 1. Other seasons will open thereafter. The seasons open and close according to a schedule devised by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) in order to maintain the populations being hunted. Licensed hunters are requested to adhere to bag limits and other regulations established for this purpose. The seasons cover a variety of ducks, geese, mergansers and teal.
