Statement on Procurement Reform Legislation HB 4644

State Representative Tim Butler (R-Springfield) released the following statement after House Bill 4644 was introduced today.  Butler is an original co-sponsor of this legislation which reforms the State’s onerous procurement process:

“The State’s procurement process is far too cumbersome for state vendors, it adds cost to State government, and does not defend the interests of the taxpayers. It is yet another area in which Illinois lags behind other states. This legislation is estimated to save the State $500 million annually and streamline the process for procurement. Those are savings which can be used in other areas or returned to the citizens. Additionally, this bill maintains necessary ethics and transparency safeguards.  I would urge the General Assembly to move swiftly to enact this legislation.”
