Butler statement on emergency budget vote

Springfield…State Representative Tim Butler (R-Springfield) issued the following statement after the House passed the Fiscal Year 15 emergency budget bill on Tuesday.

“For too long we have had unrealistic, overspending budgets which left us with nothing but bad options to choose from today.  I came here with the top priority of getting our fiscal house in order, and I believe we made a first step today.  The alternative is to see Illinois almost immediately unable to make payroll at our prisons, loss of child care assistance to low-income families, layoffs of court reporters and a loss of services for the mentally ill and developmentally disabled. Illinois has put off tough choices for too long, causing the problems to grow and multiply into the situation we are faced with now. I hope that today marks the beginning of Illinois’ effort to turn around our budget crisis and brings us closer to the day when we are able to fully fund all of our important priorities.”
